The Roost wins Regional Rural Business Award

The Roost Luxury Glamping in Mitcheldean, has battled it out against fellow tourism businesses across the entire South West of England and won the South West Best Rural Tourism Business Award.

The Roost opened in December 2019 but, due to Covid, was forced to close its doors just 12 weeks later. Consisting of two cedar cabins set in 2 acres of meadow within a Special Area of Conservation, it has been rated as one of the top 15 Great Cabin Getaways in the UK by The Sunday Telegraph. Adults only & dog friendly, the cabins have already achieved two “gold” grading awards -one from Quality in Tourism, the other from Green Tourism as well as a Gold Award for Best New Business in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

Business owner, Lorraine Robinson is over the moon.

“I am delighted to have won. It’s been such a roller-coaster ride over the last eighteen months, so to be awarded the South West Best Rural Tourism Business Award is really motivating and gratifying. The cabins have been consistently fully booked, with many being repeat customers. We are a very romantic place – there has been a least five marriage proposals and six honeymoons on site so far. It all helps to raise the profile of the area too and has put the   Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley firmly on the ‘must see’ tourist map!”

The Roost will now go through to the National Finals on 24 February 2022.

“I’m up against some other truly outstanding tourism businesses from around the rest of the UK so I’ll be keeping all my fingers and toes firmly crossed”!
